The game

What is this game?
An impostor party game for one phone. The whole group plays on a single device: everybody gets the same secret word, one player does not. Then comes the discussion, the suspicion, the vote and the reveal.
What is the best player count?
Three is the minimum, but five to eight is where it peaks. That is enough clues to analyse while everybody still gets a turn inside the timer.
How long is a round?
The discussion timer runs from thirty seconds to two minutes. With card dealing, voting and the reveal, a full round takes two to four minutes. Most groups play five to ten rounds in a sitting.
Which languages are supported?
The game speaks 38 languages. Word lists are written separately per language rather than translated from English.
Do you need pen, paper or cards?
No. The timer, the voting and the result are all in the app. Just the phone.

Rules

What exactly does the impostor see?
The impostor sees a card telling them they are the impostor. They never get the secret word, so they have to reconstruct it from everyone else clues.
What kind of clue is allowed?
One word or a short phrase that connects to the secret word without giving it away. If the word is Pizza, then Box is a good clue while Cheesy is nearly a gift to the impostor.
What happens if the impostor guesses the word?
Many groups play it so that a caught impostor who names the word steals the win back. The default rule here is simpler: the crew wins by voting out the impostor, the impostor wins by surviving the vote. You can always add the house rule on top.
Can there be more than one impostor?
Yes, with premium. Above six players two is a good number, above nine you can run three. Impostors do not know about each other, which is exactly what makes it chaos.
What if the vote is tied?
Most groups allow a short second discussion and revote. If it ties again, the impostor got away with it.

Premium and billing

What does premium unlock?
Ten players instead of three, all ten categories, 30, 60, 90 and 120 second rounds, multiple impostors per round, saved player profiles and quick rematch.
How much does it cost?
There are two options: a monthly subscription or a one off lifetime unlock. Current prices always show in the App Store and Google Play listings.
How do I cancel the subscription?
Subscriptions are managed by the store, not by the app. On iPhone go to Settings, your name, then Subscriptions. On Android open the Google Play app, tap your profile picture, then Payments and subscriptions.
Can I move premium to another phone?
Yes, as long as you sign in with the same Apple Account or Google Account. The purchase belongs to your account, not the device.

Technical

Does the game collect data about me?
No. There is no account and no personal data collection. Settings, saved names and stats stay on your phone.
Why can I not find the app in the store?
Search for Impostor in Our Midst, or open our download page which links to both stores. On iPhone you need at least iOS 17.6.
Do I lose the game if I close the app?
The round in progress, yes, because game state lives in memory only. Saved players, stats and settings all persist.
Will I get notifications?
Only if you allow them. In that case a reminder arrives on Friday evenings. You can turn it off any time in your phone settings.
Where do I report a bug?
Write to hello@guessy.hu. Mentioning your phone model and app version gets you a fix faster.
