Never have I ever questions: 150 ideas for parties, friends and family

Who has jumped into a pool fully dressed? And who will not admit it? The best never have I ever questions, plus a version where lying is allowed.

Never have I ever questions work because everyone is curious about everyone else, but nobody wants to ask straight out. The game finds out the roundabout way: someone says a sentence starting with “Never have I ever…”, and anyone who has done it loses a point. Below are 150 never have I ever questions sorted by theme, plus how to play a great game without any drinking at all.

Never have I ever rules without drinking

  1. 1Everyone holds up all ten fingers. Those are your ten lives.
  2. 2Going around the circle, each player says “Never have I ever…” followed by something they have genuinely never done.
  3. 3Anyone who has done it puts one finger down. If they want to, they tell the story.
  4. 4Lose all ten fingers and you are out. The last player with a finger up wins.
  5. 5Instead of fingers you can use candy, matchsticks or points. What matters is that everyone can see who has lost how many.

There is a drinking version, but you do not need it. At the family table, on a school trip or at an office event the finger version is just as much fun, and nobody feels awkward for not drinking.

Want a round where lying is the point?

Bluffing never have I ever: when lying is allowed

This version mixes never have I ever with the impostor game. It runs like the original, except anyone who puts a finger down has to tell the story, and they are allowed to make it up. Everyone else votes: true or fake? Get caught lying and you lose two fingers. Fool the group and you get one back. Ten minutes in, you will know who the best bluffer in the room is.

Keep it fun, not awkward

  • Do not aim at one person. If a statement is obviously about someone in the room, it is not a game anymore, it is a callout.
  • Passing is always allowed. Nobody has to tell a story they do not want to. The finger still goes down.
  • Match the questions to the group. Clean never have I ever questions at the family table, awkward ones with close friends.
  • Stop in time. After three or four rounds, move on to something else while everyone is still laughing. Our Halloween party games have plenty of ideas.

Want to go beyond yes or no? Our sister app Cards by Guessy collects open questions for exactly that: questions to get to know someone and questions for couples.

Frequently asked questions

How do you play never have I ever without drinking?
Everyone holds up ten fingers, and each time a statement applies to you, you put one down. Lose all ten and you are out. Candy, matchsticks or points work just as well as fingers.
How many people do you need for never have I ever?
It works from three players, but four to ten is the sweet spot. In a bigger group, split into two circles so everyone gets a turn to ask never have I ever questions.
What are good clean never have I ever questions for families?
Ones about experiences rather than secrets: eaten snails, ridden a pony, seen a shooting star. Those are the questions where the grandparents have the best stories.
Is never have I ever a drinking game?
It has a drinking version, but the game does not need it. The finger version is the original playground game and works for any age, from school trips to the office.
